"Let's help them in their homes ..." YES, BUT REALLY!
As with many years in many parts of Italy, including our directors (right and left) had undertaken a few years ago, to devote a small portion of the proceeds of the Integrated Water bills to finance works water and sanitation in developing countries, through a Fund for International Cooperation.
EACH Percent of our tariff (ie € 1 per 100) was used to construct wells and water systems in African countries, where many people continue to leave to Italy, to Europe to seek a better life.
But some of our current directors, who are part of the Executive Committee dell'ATO1, decided a few days ago that, to avoid a further increase in rates, we should proceed with the cancellation of the share allocated to international cooperation.
Now, we think that the costs of water management should not burden the citizens in a so heavy. We side with those who protest because, from day to day, without adequate information, have seen their bills rise disproportionately.
But we believe it is an act of civilization 'to preserve the Fund for International Cooperation.
We believe that we need to help the poor "at home" but we want it for real and not just in words! Scope of the Conference
Authority, which will convene on November 9,
ask you to vote against the proposal of the Executive Committee and find an alternative solution;
ask you to keep an important commitment to those parts of the world where the rights most basic, such as access to drinking water, are not guaranteed.
